A kind, patient and gentle soul, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Leonard A. Boensch, 89, of Saginaw, peacefully passed away Saturday evening January 16, 2021 at the Veteran's Palliative Care Unit in Saginaw. He was born April 25, 1931 to the late Carl and Agatha (Berghoff) Boensch. After attending Indiantown Grade School, he graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He farmed with his father and four brothers until 1969. He then worked at Wiltsie Tool and Stork Engineering as a welder before opening Boensch Garage in 1971. Always a farmer in heart and mind, he and his son Tim, farmed side by side until 2015. On July 12, 1958 Len married the love of his life, Carol J. She survives him along with their children Karen Young, Kathy (Craig) Wascher, and Timothy (Julie) Boensch, their grandchildren Kayla (Brett Sebens) Young, Kevin Young, Christopher (Cassie Leightner) Wascher, Kyle (Christy) Wascher, and Kaitlyn (Calvin) Hugo and their great grandchildren, Jacey Hugo, Joslyn Hugo and Kian Wascher. Len was thrilled to be a grandfather and so very proud of each and every one of his grandchildren. Also surviving him are his sister Patricia (Boensch) Plowdrey, brother in law Donald (Buzz) Guerin, sisters in law Susan Kern, Marijo (Ross) Colon and many nieces, nephews and devoted friends. He is preceded in death by his infant son Leonard Joseph, brothers Francis, Carl, Bernard, and Raymond, sister Agatha, and brothers in law Gary and Edward Guerin. Thank you to the staff at Veteran's Memorial Hospital Palliative Care for their compassionate attentiveness. And, a very special thank you to Hannah Bothe, Len's home caregiver, she always got a smile out of him. Len will always be remembered with a smirk on his face and a twinkle in his eye. Love you gobs Papa. Go straight home. Honoring Len's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private ceremony was held with immediate family.
