Our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister and dear friend passed away peacefully on Saturday October 17, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was 97 years old. Elline Gertrude Hecht was born on March 30, 1923 in Reese, Michigan to the late Carl "Charles" and Olga (Frank) Hecht. She married George Henry Harold Helpap on October 15, 1949 in Frankenmuth, he preceded her in death on January 14, 2012. Elline was a strong willed women and endured many challenges in her life. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, and enjoyed church activities including quilting, bible study and helping with the sauerkraut supper. Elline was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and the Atlanta Braves. She loved to watch Jeopardy. She enjoyed her family, family picnics, camping and family gatherings in Frankenmuth. Elline volunteered her time and energy for children with special needs, which developed into a job as a bus driver for special needs children.
Elline is survived by her two daughters: Patricia Helpap and June Ford; her brother, Melvin Hecht; and sister: Paticia Ann Lea. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Elline was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Helpap; sons: Kenneth G. Helpap and Dennis E. Helpap; son-in-law, James B. Ford and her grandson, Matthew James Ford; sister, Luella (Gerald) Weiss; sister-in-law, Lois Hecht; brother-in-law, William Lea; nephew, Steven Weiss;
We give thanks to our Lord for His love and blessings showered upon Elline for 97 years and for taking her home to be with Him forever in the peace and joy of heaven.
VISITATION: Family and friends are welcome to gather at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 600 Court Street, Saginaw, on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. For everyone's safety masks will be required, social distancing will be observed and limitations on the number in attendance will be enforced.
FUNERAL: A Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 600 Court Street. Rev. James Krueger will officiate with interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church "Bell Repair Fund". The Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd.
