Obituary of Carmen Gutierrez

Gutierrez, Carmen of Detroit, Michigan formerly of Saginaw. Passed on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at the age of 97. Carmen was born on December 14, 1922 in Sequin, TX the daughter of Domingo and Paula Medina. Carmen was united in marriage to Ynocencio Gutierrez in 1941. During WWII Carmen worked for a bomber factory and later went on to work for an automotive plant. Carmen and Ynocencio opened and operated Gutierrez Tavern. Later the name changed to Carmen's; retiring in 2001. Carmen was a great cook and a very professional and astute business woman. She loved to shop and socialize. Carmen was a block captain for WACO (Warren Avenue Citizens Organization) in Detroit. She remained very active in her community well into her senior years. Most of all Carmen loved her family and friends.
Carmen is survived by her son and daughter in-law; David and Laura Gutierrez, grandsons; Phillip (Lauren) and John Paul (Kara) and a great-granddaughter, Sophia Lynn and granddaughter Dianna Gutierrez (daughter of her son Robert). Carmen was preceded in death by her son, Robert in 2010.
FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy for Carmen will take place Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 11:00 AM from St. Joseph Catholic Church, 910 N. 6th St. Saginaw, MI 48601. Rev. Fr. Francis Voris OFM Cap to officiate. Inurnment to take place at a later date in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
VISITATION: Family and friends may visit Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. Saginaw, MI 48603 on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. In keeping with mandated ordinances and for the safety of the community, 10 people limit at one time and social distancing be be observed. Face masks are required. Prayers will be held at 10:00 AM at the funeral home and then will proceed over to St. Joseph's Catholic Church for Mass.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Christopher Parish (Detroit, MI), the Dearborn Animal Shelter or family.
