Ortiz, Jose Saginaw, Michigan Passed away February 11, 2020 at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Michigan age 68. Jose was born in Saginaw, Michigan on September 27, 1951 the son of Abel and Guadalupe (Gonzales) Ortiz. Jose graduated from Saginaw High School class of 1970. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. Jose served 6 years, 2 months and 28 days active duty and another six years in the reserves. Jose was employed by General Motors for 30 years before retiring in 1999. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion, Post 22 and American GI Forum. Jose enjoyed listening to music, fishing, reading, bowling and going on the St. Joseph casino trips. But most of all Jose loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be missed dearly. Jose is survived by his five children, Jose Kaleolani (Mellisa Kowalske) Ortiz, Lorenzo Abelardo (Sara) Ortiz, Yolanda Ortiz, Crystal Ortiz and Albino Santos (Courtney) Ortiz; twelve grandchildren, Jose Kaleolani Ortiz II, Marlina Kaya Ortiz, Candelaria "Weda" Raelyn Ortiz, Martha Lillyan Ortiz, Layla "Kitty" Vida Ortiz, Monica Lee (Darin) Bingham and Vincent Jose Osuna, Acensio Ortiz, Devont "Rocky" Rood, Skyler Ethan Ortiz and Noah Ryan Carter "Chunks" Ortiz; two great-grandchildren, Darin Bingham Jr. and Annalise Bingham; two brothers, Julian Ortiz and Pedro (Maria) Ortiz and two sisters, Teresita (Ricardo) Lumbreras and Elvira Rodriguez. Jose was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Abel Ortiz Jr., granddaughter, Alina Marie Osuna and a brother in-law, Tony Rodriguez. A very special thank you to Elena Luna and Joseph Vasquez for the wonderful care and love you gave him. Special thanks to his nurses, Crystal Beasley and Angelina Jackson. Also the family would like to thank Mr. Adam Gonzalez for all his help and hard work. FUNERAL: A Funeral Mass will take place Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at 11:00 AM from St. Joseph Parish, 910 N. 6th Ave, Saginaw, MI 48601 with Rev. Fr. Francis Voris OFM Cap. Rite of Committal and Military Honors will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens under the auspices of United States Army and the American GI Forum. VISITATION: Family and Friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again Wednesday at the church from 10:00 AM until time of the service. A vigil service will take place Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. MEMORIALS: Those planning to do a memorial contribution are asked to consider the "Wishes of the Ortiz Family".
