Obituary of Marie Elizabeth Laeding

Laeding, Marie Elizabeth La Jolla, California Formerly of Saginaw, Michigan Beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California. She was 101 years old. Marie Elizabeth Dulmage was born February 20, 1918 in Saginaw, Michigan to Frederick and Florence (Rieder) Dulmage. She was a member of the 1935 graduating class of Saginaw High School. She married Lawrence A. Laeding on June 28, 1941 in Saginaw, Michigan. She was employed by the Saginaw Public Schools at her alma matter, Saginaw High School, retiring after 14 years of service. Marie had a passion for music and first joined a local orchestra at age 13 as its sole female member playing venues throughout Saginaw (she said it was an orchestra, we maintain it was a band). She remained a talented piano player throughout her life and many were astonished by her ability to play any song requested. All who knew her delighted in listening to her play. Marie loved golfing and playing bridge, both of which she enjoyed well into her 90s. When home in Michigan, she maintained a beautiful garden. She had a deep knowledge and love of flowers and their care. She cherished traveling with all four generations of family members throughout the United States and as far as Europe and Africa. As an avid basketball fan, Marie attend games all over the country and always looked forward to her trips to the Final Four. Marie was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Saginaw, MI. Marie will forever be lovingly remembered and missed by her children, Patricia Stratton, Janice (Bill) Frieder, Joan Antle, and Michael (Patti) Laeding; grandchildren, Jessica Stratton (Mike) Goff, Laura Frieder (Brett) Hazlett, Kendra Antle, Chad (Lisa) Antle, Travis (Kristi) Laeding, Russell (Joanna) Laeding, and Leslie Laeding Coleman; great-grandchildren, Harper Goff, Olivia Hazlett, Alec Antle, Addison Antle, Kaitlynn Laeding, Alexandria Laeding, Gloria Laeding, Raquel Laeding, Anna Laeding, August Laeding, Elizabeth Laeding, McKenzie Moss, and Cash Perkins. Marie will also be missed by her sister-in-law Elizabeth Dulmage, and dearest friend of over 70 years, Dorothy Gray. Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence A. Laeding on May 28, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Robert and Frederick, sister Elizabeth, and son-in-law Richard Antle. A Committal Service will take place at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 950 N. Center Road, Saginaw, MI 48638. Reverend Kathleen A. Basner will officiate. Following the committal service, the family will receive guests from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Fuzzy's Restaurant, 1924 Court Street, Saginaw, MI 48602. A Celebration of Life will take place at 4:00 p.m., Friday, March 13, 2020 at La Jolla Presbyterian Church, 7715 Draper Avenue, La Jolla, CA 92037. Rev. Dr. Paul Cunningham will officiate. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Mustard Seed Shelter, 1325 Cherry Street, Saginaw, MI 48601.
