Obituary of Joseph Leo Merlone

Merlone, Joseph Leo Saginaw, Michigan Passed away Monday morning, December 30, 2019 at Shields Comfort Care. He was 80 years old. Joseph was born July 30, 1939 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late James and Gertrude (Kalpinski) Merlone. He married Ruth Ann Schoults on June 20, 1959 in Saginaw, Michigan. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2006. He was employed by Saginaw Valley Flower Exchange, retiring after 42 years of service. He loved being outdoors spending time hunting, fishing, and golfing. Joseph also enjoyed pulling pranks on everyone. But, what he really loved most was spending time with his family. Surviving are his children, Sandy (Rod) Dietzel, Joe (Carrie) Merlone, and Margie (David) Rodriguez; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Joseph was preceded in death by his great-grandson Jacob. FUNERAL SERVICE: A Funeral Service will take place at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Rev. Fr. Robert Byrne will officiate. In keeping with Joseph's wishes, cremation will follow. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post # 439. VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Thursday, January 2, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 4:00 p.m. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
