Obituary of Floyd S. Boardman

Floyd S. "Woody" Boardman of Saginaw Twp., Michigan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at Edgewood Assisted Living. He was 91 years old. Floyd Stanley Boardman was born on October 2, 1928 in Pontiac, MI to the late Floyd Page and Leone (Stanley) Boardman. Woody's family moved to Saginaw when he was in the 8th grade, and he graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1946 where he played football. He attended Bay City Junior College, and was drafted into the United States Army, being stationed in Baumholder, Germany and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Following the war, Woody studied at GMI (now Kettering University) and worked for General Motors - Steering Gear. He married Pauline Esther Bandemer on April 11, 1953 in Grosse Pointe, and she preceded him in death on October 25, 2014. He enjoyed many games of baseball, blooper ball and cheering for Michigan State University. Woody retired in 1987, and together he and Pauline spent countless hours relaxing at their cottage on Little Twin Lake in Mancelona. He was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and past member of the Fordney Club, Germania Club and the American Legion. Woody enjoyed spending time with his family and being involved with all of their activities. Woody's incredible wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed by his children: James (Dawn) Boardman of Saginaw and Karen Boardman Moore of Lake Orion; daughter-in-law, Susan Boardman of Grayling; grandchildren: A.J. (Jenny) Boardman, Matt (Jessica) Boardman, Hayley (Andy) Strohpaul, Aaron Moore, Laura (Erin) Ferguson, Hanna and Logan Boardman; three great granddaughters, Kylie, Kenzie and Ruby; great grandson, Emerson; and his Black Lab, Sam. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; son, Robert "Rob" Boardman; infant grandson, Robert Floyd Boardman, Jr.; infant granddaughter, Sara Boardman; and sister, Elizabeth Hallman. Woody's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Edgewood Assisted Living and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for their continued care and support. FUNERAL: A funeral service for Woody will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2019 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5335 Brockway Rd., Saginaw. Rev. Paul Biber and Deacon Jeff Rauschert will co-officiate. Military honors under the auspices of the United States Army and V.F.W. Post #1859 will be held at the church immediately following the funeral service. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. VISITATION: Family and friends will gather on Thursday, November 7, 2019 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) and on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
