Obituary of Liliane Steuerwald

STEUERWALD, Liliane of Midland, formerly of Saginaw, Michigan, Our loving, kind-hearted and incredibly strong willed mother and grandmother passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2011, at Tendercare of Midland. She was 80 years old. Liliane Marie Degli-Espoti was born on May 8, 1931, in Gorcy, France. She married the love of her life, Joseph Vincent Steuerwald, on July 4, 1956 in France, while he was stationed in Germany during WWII. Following the war, Joseph was transferred and stationed in Ft. Hood, Texas; it was here where Liliane proudly gained U.S. citizenship. Upon his retirement from the military, Joseph and Liliane moved to the Saginaw community where they settled and raised their beloved daughters. Throughout her life, Liliane worked for various food hospitality businesses. She enjoyed knitting, bingo, reading, and was an avid sports fan. Above all, Liliane loved to be involved in political debates. Surviving are two daughters: Patricia (Allen) Barrow and Elizabeth (James) Manser; and her five cherished grandchildren: Nigel and Shelby Barrow, J.J., Morgan and Nolan Manser. Liliane's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Heartland Hospice and Tendercare Midland for the kind and genuine care that was provided. FUNERAL: Funeral and Committal Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2011, at St. Andrew Cemetery, 381 St. Andrew Rd. (off Gratiot). Chaplain Wayne Shidler will officiate. VISITATION: The family will receive friends at the St. Andrew Cemetery chapel on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Heartland Hospice or the National Alzheimer's Association.
