Obituary of Ruth E. Hammond Gushen Hunt

HUNT, Ruth E. Hammond Gushen, age 98. Passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Hoyt Nursing Home. Ruth graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1934 and worked at St. Mary's Hospital until her retirement in 1973. She was a member of St. Mary's Alumni. A member of Ames United Methodist Church and sang in the Saginaw Civic Chorus. She loved traveling, china painting, trees, birds, flowers, ice cream cones and seeing her grandchildren. Ruth is predeceased by her parents, Edgar and Hazel (Bowen) Hammond; her husbands, Walter R. Gushen and Emmett Hunt; three brothers and one sister; her daughter, Carolyn (Gushen) Ellis Wielinski; nephew, Donald M. Reid. She will be missed by her daughters, Hazel (Gushen) Moore and Ele Gushen (Brad) Hanson; grandchildren: Judith Moore (Brad) Minar, Michael Moore, Bill Harnsberger, James Moore, Lori Hanson (Tom) Kania, Tim Hanson, Jeffrey (Caroline) Ellis, Scott (Heather) Ellis, Cheryl Wielinski (Steve) Yealey; 12 great grandchildren: Bethany Minar, Nicole Moore and her partner Kevin Meier, Jaquelynn Hanson, Aaron Ellis, Lucas, Molli, TJ, Coulton and Abby Jo Ellis, Tiffany, Zachery and Matthew Yealey; two great great grandchildren: twins, Owen and Mason Meier; a special niece and her husband, Nancy and Jerome Swantek and their daughter, Jennifer Swantek (Scott) Brady, their sons, Spencer and Jack; a great nephew, Matthew Reid. A Funeral Service for Ruth will be held at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Sunday at the funeral home from 1:00 until 8:00 p.m. Pastor Mark Karls will officiate. Interment will be held privately at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Ames United Methodist Church.
