Obituary of Ruth Krogman Spiess
Please share a memory of Ruth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
SPIESS, Ruth Krogman passed away on August 18, 2011, three days after her 90th birthday. Ruth was born to the late Carl J. and Matilda (Maas) Krogman on August 15, 1921 in Coral, Mi. Ruth had fond memories of growing up in Hemlock, Mi with older sister, Betty (deceased) and younger sister, Melva. Ruth graduated from Owosso Business School was hired by Michigan Bell, where she remained for 37 years, working her way into supervisory and Administrative Assistant positions. It was during her early years at Michigan Bell that she met, dated and married Casper Spiess on June 4, 1949, a marriage that continued for 62 years. Always a sharp dresser, Ruth very much enjoyed working part-time in the women's department at Jacobson's in downtown Saginaw after retirement, and also worked for St. Luke's Hospital Foundation. Ruth's gifts were plentiful and she shared them in numerous ways. She loved to paint in oils, especially landscapes and flowers. Ruth was a faithful and devoted member of Peace Lutheran Church for 61 years, serving on the Ladies' Guild and Altar Committee. She loved working in her garden and cooking, but most of all she loved people. Ruth loved nothing better than to have a roomful of family and friends sitting around her kitchen table visiting.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Casper Spiess of Saginaw; daughter, Christine Hoffman of Saginaw; son, Charles Spiess and wife Deb, of The Woodlands, TX; and sister, Melva Coyne of Mt. Pleasant, MI. Ruth was loved as "Grandma" by her grandchildren: Christopher Spiess and wife, Theresa, of San Antonio, TX, Benjamin Hoffman of Kalamazoo, MI and Jessica Spiess of Milwaukee, WI. Ruth is also survived by seven nieces and nephews: John Heilman, Elizabeth Musolino, Paul Heilman, Miriam McNally, David Coyne, Dana Coyne and Mark Coyne to who she remained close.
Ruth's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Centre for the exceptional loving care given to Ruth.
