CASE, John "Jack" Emmett of Petoskey, formerly of Gaylord and Saginaw, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey, MI. He was 89 years of age. John E. Case was born on February 25, 1922 in Saginaw to the late George and Elizabeth (Zinck) Case. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1940. Jack served in the U.S. Navy as a Motor Machinist Mate 2nd Class during World War II. On June 26, 1954 he married Marjorie Evans in Saginaw, she preceded him in death on June 28, 1994. He worked as a mechanic and later as an industrial salesman. He most enjoyed spending time at the cottage on Otsego Lake, which Marge and Jack made into their home upon retirement in 1988. Jack was a member of the Masons and the Provost Guard. He moved to Independence Village in Petoskey in 2008 to be closer to his daughter. Jack had been an active member of St. Matthew Episcopal Church in Saginaw and St. Andrew Episcopal Church in Gaylord, serving on the vestries of both parishes. He was a member of New Life Anglican Church in Petoskey. Jack is survived by two daughters and their husbands: Elizabeth (Wesley) Ostrander of Petoskey and Carol (Dan) Farkas-Malivuk of Christiansted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands; five grandchildren: John, Joseph, and David Ostrander all of Petoskey, Andrew Farkas of Chicago and Stefanie Farkas of Huma, AZ. Besides his wife he was predeceased by three brothers: William, George and twin brother, Ralph Case; a sister, Ruth Beckman; and his special friend, Gertrude Baxter. FUNERAL- Jack's Funeral Service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Rev. Michael Bridge will officiate. Entombment will follow at Oakwood Mausoleum. VISITATION- Friends are welcome to visit with Jack's family at the funeral home on Friday, September 30, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. MEMORIALS- In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Shriners Hospital for Children, New Life Anglican Church or Hiland Cottage, Hospice of Little Traverse Bay.
