Obituary of Henry Sabgash

SABGASH, Henry of Saginaw, MI passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at the Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Medical Center. He was 90 years old. Henry Sabgash was born July 15, 1921 in Saginaw to the late Rudolph and Tillie (Sparschau) Sabgash. He graduated from Saginaw High School in 1940. Henry proudly served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army as a Sergeant with the 96th Infantry Division. He received many decorations including a silver star for saving his Company and a purple heart after being severely injured in Okinawa. Following his service with the military he continued his recovery at St. Mary's Hospital where he met his future wife and nursing student, June C. Ernandez. They then married on September 27, 1947. She preceded him in death on April 24, 1977. Henry was employed by Grey Iron as a machine repairman, retiring in 1978. Henry is survived by his son, Tom Sabgash of Millington; two grandchildren: Thor Sabgash of Millington and Lucianna of Plymouth. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Sabgash and three sisters: Frieda Zimmerman, Carolyn "Tootie" Acker and Elsie Brady. FUNERAL: A funeral service for Henry will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Rev. Mike Nitz will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday, October 7, 2011 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
