Obituary of Elizabeth Margaret Upton

UPTON, Elizabeth Margaret of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Hoyt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Age 86 years. Margaret Gaffney was born in Cadillac, Michigan on May 7, 1925 to the late Laurence F. and Marguerite (Cleary) Gaffney . She was married to William H. Upton on May 24, 1945 in Saginaw. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1993. Elizabeth was an active member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. She served her parish family as President of The Alter Society and by pioneering their Annual Christmas Bazaar. Elizabeth also spent many years helping others as a volunteer in the gift shop at Covenant HealthCare Gift Shop. She loved embroidering, but most of all, Elizabeth cherished spending time with her family and friends. Elizabeth's memory will be treasured by her three daughters: Cynthia (Steven) Valdiserri, Barbara (James) Karl, and Marguerite (Allen) Kolka; seven grandchildren: Elizabeth Valdiserri, Lisa (Keith) Jones, Susan Berdovich, Megan (Paul) Schutt, Angela (Bill) Cottrell, Jill Kolka, and Mason Kolka: and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Beth Karl, and a sister, Mary Lou Joseph. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit at the Deisler Funeral Home on Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. FUNERAL: Elizabeth's Funeral Service will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State). Sr. Elaine Raymond, MSSp will officiate. A private burial will take place in St. Andrew Cemetery.
