Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
PRINE, Joan Emery of Saginaw, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Cartwright Hospice Residence. She was 87 years old. Joan Emery was born in Saginaw on September 24, 1924, to the late Rexford and Natalie (Spencer) Emery. She resided here all of her life except for two early wedded years in Ann Arbor. Joey was married to William O. Prine on September 8, 1948. He survives her. Joey was a graduate of Saginaw High School and was employed as a secretary at the U. S. Graphite Company and the Pediatrics Department of the University Hospital, Ann Arbor, in the early years. From 1977 to 1984, she served as office manager in her husband's architectural office. She was very active in various P.T.A.'s and also the Junior League. Joey was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday school for several years, was a member of its Chilton-Lyon and Bridget Fuller Circles, and also served several terms as president of its Women's Fellowship. Joey spent many summers on their sailboat Stardust, where she and Bill shared happy times with their marina friends in the hospitable Village of Northport. She especially enjoyed her "Garden" Club, Tuesday Book Club, and her friends in her "Bridge" Club of some sixty-plus years, but most of all, she cherished the members of her family and the happy times spent all together. Joey and Bill were born one block apart and grew up together in the same neighborhood. They remained best friends throughout their 63-year marriage. Joey was a devoted wife, loving mother and loyal friend who always put the needs of others above her own. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and they will miss her all the days of their lives. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons and a daughter: Andrew W. (Susan) Prine, Saginaw, David E. (Kimberly) Prine, Fowlerville, and Becky P. (Timothy) Sullivan, Thomas Township; five grandchildren: Ryan and Margaret Sullivan, Sarah, William and Zachary Prine; one great-grandchild: Trowa Ridenour; and one step-grandchild: Brionna Davies. Joey is survived by one sister, Grace E. Manning, Saginaw; one nephew, James Emery, Beaverton; one niece, Janice Emery, Saginaw; and several special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara Joan Prine, her parents, and her brother, James S. Emery. FUNERAL: Joey's Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at First Congregational Church, 403 South Jefferson Ave. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit at the church on Saturday, January 21, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Joey's service. MEMORIALS: Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the First Congregational Church, Cartwright Hospice Residence or the charity of your choice.
