Obituary of Sophia Yrlas

YRLAS, Sophia of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away and was reunited with her husband on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at her home. She was 66 years old. Sophia Gomez was born on January 5, 1946 to Benito and Maria (Trevino) Gomez. She married Victor S. Yrlas, Jr. on April 23, 1966 in Kaufman, Texas; he preceded her in death on January 19, 2006. Sophia loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Surviving are her mother, Maria (Nicholas) Castillo; four daughters: Estella Yrlas (Benjamin Gonzalez), Delia (Aubin) Chang, Victoria (Antwan) Bolds, and Maggie Yrlas; six grandchildren; Victor Roman, Selena Allen, Juan Allen, Torriano Yrlas, Tahlia Yrlas and Christian Gonzalez; Five brothers and four sisters: Ramon (Gavina) Gomez, Victor Gomez, Adela (Enrique) Gutierrez, Jose (Dora) Gomez, Janie (Joe) Cota, Benito (Janie) Gomez, Jr., Tony (Patricia) Gomez, Minerva Martinez, Yolanda Gomez. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, especially a close nephew and aunt, Gilbert Chavana and Irma Ramos. She was preceded in death by her father, Benito Gomez; a sister, Florastella Gomez; and a sister-in-law, Guadalupe Gomez. FUNERAL: Sophia's Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 910 N. 6th Ave. Rev. Fr. Francis Voris, OFMCap will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Sunday, February 26, 2012, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday evening. Sophia will lie in state at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
