Obituary of Mary Regina Bashans

Bashans, Mary R. Saginaw, Michigan Passed away Wednesday evening, April 24, 2019 after an ongoing illness at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital at the age of 88. Mary was born on August 14, 1930 in Saginaw to the late Ralph and Raeffela (Massuchi) Naples. Mary attended Mt. Caramel grade school and St. Josephs High School. As a young girl she worked at Home Dairy and Sunshine Biscuit. Mary was united in marriage to Marvin Dean Bashans on July 11, 1953; he preceded her in death on February 18, 1979. Mary was a member of St. Mary Cathedral, past member of the League of Catholic Women and enjoyed going on many pilgrimages. She enjoyed cooking Italian specialties and dining out with her children. Mary's family and friends meant the world to her and she kept them close. Most of all, she loved her Lord and was generous with her time. Mary was always ready to comfort others and shared her beautiful smile and laughter wherever she went. Mary is survived by her ten children, five girls and five boys: Mary K. Bashans, Lydia A. Bashans, Michael Bashans, Theresa (Alex) Nemeth, Joseph Bashans, Tommy Bashans, Sammy Bashans, Jean (Mark) Wilborn, John Bashans and Carolyn T. Bashans; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews, including two special ones, Carrie and Donnie Suitor. Mary also leaves behind three special pastoral friends: Daniel Cannon, Diane Smiley and Sr. Yvonne Mary Loucks. And a special thank you to Reverence Hospice for all the compassionate care. She was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters: Mario, Virginia, Clement (Joan) Naples, Angelo, Tillie (John) Jerservez, Lucy (Bill) Kelly, Theresa (Dick) Glym, Sam and Antoinette; and one granddaughter, Nichol Edwards. FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy for Mary will take place 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2019 at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, 615 Hoyt Ave. Rev. Fr. William J. Ruthkowski will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter St. (off State) on Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again at the church on Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A Vigil for Mary will take place at the funeral home on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. MEMORIAL: Those planning a memorial contribution are asked to consider the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption.
