Passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at his home. He was 77 years old. Johnnie Manuel Martinez was born on May 7, 1941 in Saginaw to the late Benjamin and Apolonia (Alamillo) Martinez. Johnnie proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force for four years and then continued his service with the U.S. Army Reserves for an additional 19 years. He worked for the Buick Motor Division, in Flint as a truck repairman for 43 years retiring in 2008. Johnnie attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. He loved to play the lottery including taking trips to the casino and playing bingo. Johnnie's greatest joy was found in spending time with his cherished grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his sons: Johnnie Jr. (Melanie) Martinez and their children: Darren S. Murphy, Jonathon P. Martinez and Madison M. Martinez; and Micheal (Jennifer) Martinez and their children: Casey L. (Quentin) Krueger, Jamie T. Martinez and Micheal A. Martinez Jr.; great grandchildren: Aubrey and Amiyah Krueger, and Jose Rivera Jr.; his former wife, Patricia Martinez; his siblings: Lupe Vargas, Emilio (Doloras) Martinez, Augustine (Jean) Martinez, Gloria Fulsher and Alice (Anthony) Stricker; sisters-in-law, Rose Garcia and Lois Martinez; a special friend, Teresa Rocha. Johnnie is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Johnnie was preceded in death by: brothers: Jose Garcia, Anthony Martinez; sister, Esther (Paul) Olvera, Mary (Homero) Trevino; brothers-in-law: Filimon Vargas and Robert Fulsher.
FUNERAL: In keeping with Johnnie's wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service for Johnnie will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2019 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd., (off State). Rev. Fr. Francis Voris will officiate. The American GI Forum will provide military honors following the memorial service. Burial and military honors will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, Michigan at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2019.
VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Monday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
