My thoughts and prayers to the Boersma family. Mr. Boersma was my basketball coach in 67 and 68. He was my all time favorite coach. I sat with him at a Bridgeport tournament game a few years ago in Alma. I remember him quizzing me on the plays that the teams were running, or should have been running. He was still coaching me some 40 years after I played for him. He was a good man, Rest in peace Coach Boersma.

My thoughts and prayers to the Boersma family. I am very sorry for your loss, and know it is a difficult time for all of you. As I write this note my thoughts go back to all those classes where I learned everything from volleyball to bowling and more. What a joy to see him at the class of 77 reunion in 2012. Mr Boresma was my P.E. teacher in seventh and eighth grade. I think of him from time to time. It just seems he's a recurring memory of mine for that time in my life. He was a really great guy. It would have been 1965-66. Sounds like he had a good long life and he certainly deserved it. I pray the blessings of God for his family at this time. Thank you Mr. Boresma for your service!!! Rev. Marv always greeted me with a warm smile and hug. We've had some good conversations when our family's have gotten together over the years. He even helped to supply Christmas trees to help decorate for my wedding day! But one of the things I have loved seeing is Marv being a grandpa to my nieces and nephews. I would hear how Marv and Sally would travel down and back in the same day just to see one of their grandkids at their sporting event. I know he is going to be missed!

My condolences to the family. Marve was my first football coach, first gym teacher, and my first fan. My first day at football practice, Marv walked up to me while I was sitting on a locker room bench trying to get a knot out of the shoulder pad laces. He said, "Mr. Wilber let me help you with that. These can be a problem, if you don't take care. I want you to know, your Uncle was the first man to help me put on my shoulder pads. Now I am helping you. I like that. Work hard today."
I was in shock. My uncle Hiram Becker had been a coach at Cadillac, Michigan for 13 years. Most of my friends didn't even know where Cadillac was, or who he was even though he had won several Michigan High School State football championships. I remember his comment like it was yesterday. He made me feel like I was part of something bigger than me. I will miss him. I would like you to know he was a great man to small children.

I just saw him a few months back walking in the mall and had a long talk. He was my teacher every year at the middle school. He also lived on Southfield Village where I lived. He was a great teacher And i told him. I also told him he was one of the teachers that inspired me to be a teacher. Bridgeport (I have) had so many teachers teachers while i was in school! RIP Mr Boersma :sweat:
