Obituary of L. D. Emmett Hodges

Passed away suddenly Saturday morning, February 23, 2019 at his residence at the age of 99. L.D. was born on September 1, 1919 in Gilford, MI the son of Charles and Ida (Kowitz) Hodges. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. L.D. was united in marriage to the former Ruth Walz on October 26, 1940 in Indiana; she preceded him in death on May 19, 2003. L. D. was self-employed for many years doing siding and home improvements. He loved doing anything with his hands and keeping busy helping family and friends. L.D. is survived by one daughter and three sons, Lori and Thomas Page, Saginaw, James and Caryn Hodges, Saginaw, Ronald Hodges (Maureen Morand), Bay City and Timothy Hodges (Cindy Heinz), Saginaw, 12 grandchildren, Chelsea (Adam) Houthoofd, Jessica (Matthew) McRae, Carrie (Fred) Hodges, Cory (Erica) Hodges and Cris Hodges, Tim and L. J. Hodges, Melanie Yokat, Vance and Britt Heinz and Lance Hodges, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife Ruth, L. D. was preceded in death by two sons, Larry and Robert Hodges, one granddaughter, Misty Hodges and seven brothers and sisters. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you, to Mary Holmes for all the loving care she gave to our dad over the last 6 years. FUNERAL: A funeral service for L. D. will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, 8695 Gratiot Rd, with Rev. Julie Bailey to officiate. Committal services to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. . Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post 439. VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd (off State) on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. and again at the church Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. MEMORIALS: Those planning a memorial contribution are asked to consider a charity of their choice.
