Gonzales, Nicolasa "Nico" Contreras Saginaw, Michigan Passed away peacefully on Friday, January 4, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 92. Nicolasa was born on December 6, 1926 in Sabinal, Texas to the late Andres and Refugia Sanchez Contreras. She was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Pablo B. Gonzales on April 28, 1946 in Texas; he preceded her in death after 58 years of marriage. Nicolasa and Pablo moved to Saginaw in 1948 where they made their home and lovingly raised seven children. Nicolasa was a member of St. Joseph Parish for 71 years, a devoted member of Las Damas de Guadalupe and Cursillista. She worked at Martin Luther Manor, retiring after 12 years of service. After retirement Nicolasa enjoyed traveling with her husband and later with her sons and daughters visiting; Texas, Mexico, California, New York and Las Vegas. Nicolasa is survived by her seven children; Paul C. (Liz) Gonzales, Robert (Connie) Gonzales, Oscar (Elena) Gonzales, Juanita (Jose) Diaz, Edward (Yolanda) Gonzales, Suzanna Cruz and Mario Gonzales; 21 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Santos (Estolia) Contreras of Snyder, Texas and sisters-in-law, Justina G. Ramirez of Dallas, Texas and Gloria Gonzalez of Elkhart, Indiana; many nieces, nephews, God children, compadres and dear friends. Nicolasa was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Pedro O. Cruz Jr.; two great-grandchildren: Anthony Gonzales and Pablo Pedro Cruz; and five siblings. The Gonzales family would like to thank the staff of Covenant Cooper for their compassionate care. They would also like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Hoyt Nursing Home for the quality care Nicolasa received this past year. FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy for Nicolasa will take place 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019 at St. Joseph Parish, 936 N. 6th Ave, Saginaw, MI 48601. Rev. Fr. Francis Voris OFM Cap will officiate. Rite of Committal to follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd (off State) on Thursday, January 10, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and again Friday morning at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A Vigil for the deceased will take place Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. MEMORIALS: Those wishing to do a memorial contribution are asked to consider St. Joseph Parish.
