Metiva, Martha Zilwaukee, MI Martha Metiva went home to the Lord on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from New Hope Valley Retirement Community in Saginaw surrounded by her family. She was 92 years old. Martha Schafer was born on December 7, 1925 in Saginaw to the late David and Eva (Laubhan) Schafer. She married Linus V. (Pete) Metiva on April 20, 1951 in Zilwaukee. He predeceased her in death on February 6, 1981. Martha was a faithful member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her family, especially her great grandchildren and watching the Detroit Tigers. Martha always found something to laugh about and her sense of humor will be greatly missed. She is survived by her three sons: Matthew (Bridget McFarland) Metiva, Michael (Becky) Metiva and Thomas Metiva; grandchildren: Lauren (Jon Renner) Metiva, Allison (Mike) Metiva-Wajer, Jacob (Janelle) Metiva and Jaclyn (Nic) Taylor; six great grandchildren: Maya, Nina and Annabelle Renner, Eva and Evan Wajer, Brooks Taylor and one expected in May 2019; sister-in-law, Mary Schafer. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Linus; her siblings: Alex, David, Jacob, Godfred, Henry, Ben, Leona, Eva and Mary. Martha's family would like to thank Brenda Stagdl of The Care Team hospice group and the staff on New Hope Valley for the care, kindness and respect they extended to mom and the family. We were comforted knowing that she was in their care. FUNERAL: A funeral service for Martha will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Rev. Phillip M. DeVries will officiate with burial to follow at St. Andrew Cemetery. VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Monday, November 5, 2018 from 3:00 until 8:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. MEMORIALS: Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial contribution to Messiah Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children's Hospital (It was one of Martha's favorite charities).
