Patty graduated from St. Mary High School in Jackson on 06-07-1964. She then worked as a teller and performed data-entry at a savings and loan in Jackson until 1967 when she moved to Saginaw, MI where she attended Delta College and worked at Catholic Family Services from 1967 to 1969.
