Diaz, Benito "Benny" Saginaw Twp., Michigan Benny passed away peacefully on Monday, September 3, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 94 years old. Benito Amador Diaz was born on March 21, 1924 in San Antonio, Texas to the late Baldomero and Martina (Amador) Diaz. He married Naomi Amelia Colindres on October 4, 1945 in Michigan. Together they celebrated 63 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on September 7, 2008. Benny worked for Grey Iron Foundry for 44 years, retiring in July of 1989. He was an avid golfer and bowler and enjoyed those sports well into his 90's. He enjoyed listening to the Blues and Mariachi music. Benny was an avid cook, and to relax he enjoyed reading every day. He vacationed with his family every year, throughout the United States until 2017. Benny and Naomi enjoyed many years together at their cottage in Oscoda. Benny is survived by his children: Naomi Lewis, Sylvia Diaz and Rick (Cindy) Diaz; grandchildren: Bill (Keisha) Lewis, Monique Baker, Erica (Dustin) Francetic, Alex (Lindsay) Diaz, Luke Rebman, Adam Rebman and Ricky Diaz; great grandchildren: Jacob, Elijah, Isabella and Nemo Lewis, Nadia Baker, Ethyn and Karly Downing, Adelyn Francetic, Eliza Diaz, Emma Diaz, Aliyah and Hailey Rebman. Benny is also survived by his sister, Maria "Tina" Sanchez; sister-in-law, Grace Ortega; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Benny was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi; son, Staff Sargent Benito "Benny" Diaz Jr. (who passed away during the Vietnam War); sisters: Margaret Teneyuque and Martina Diaz; brothers: Baldormero "Mero" (Molly) Diaz, Nick Diaz and Joe Diaz; brothers-in-law: Louie Sanchez, Dan Ortega and Michael (Martha) Colindres. MEMORIAL SERVICE: According to Benny's wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 1, 2018 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Dennis Ortega, a nephew of Benny's will officiate. Benny and Naomi with be buried together following the service at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
