Please share a memory of Willo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
SERR, Willo Gene (Humphrey) of Saginaw Township, went home to be with the Lord on June 16, 2012, at the age of 84 after a long battle with COPD. She fought the good fight and finished the race. She was born on October 8, 1927 in Paris, Illinois to the late Homer William Humphrey and Gladys Ola McCaslin. Her only sister, Rexena Miller, predeceased her in 1977. Willo married Robert Wilson Serr (who predeceased her on August 16, 2004) of Owosso, MI on September 16, 1951. Robert was the Chief Estimator for Saginaw Steering Gear. Surviving are her four children: Susan Serr (Saginaw, MI), Leesa Serr (Saginaw, MI), Sally Serr (Clear Lake Shores, TX) and Robert Serr (Houston, TX), daughter-in-law, Linda Bosco-Serr and her grandson, Hunter Serr.
Willo graduated from Paris, IL High School in 1944 then moved to Chicago, IL to work for the Civil Service at the Merchandise Mart Building. She played her father's coronet with the high school marching band in Kansas, IL. She sang with the octet choir that won the first-in-state contest. A composer and director in Chicago, IL chose Willo to sing with a special choir and they won the first-in-state competition. She also sang with the Germania choir and with the Second Presbyterian Church choir where she received a hand-carved wooden cross for 50 years of membership. She was a costumer for Pit and Balcony and at Delta College. Willo played the screamer in Delta's production of Marat Sade. In 1995, Willo won the Best of Show award at the Harrison, MI State Fair for her modern painting. In later years Willo toured Europe with a Saginaw News journalist and their pictures were in the paper. Willo and her husband, Bob, also traveled to Europe, Iceland, Russia, Yogoslovia and Hawaii. Willo is a descendent of the Welsh Raglands and in 1987 she visited the ruins of the Ragland Castle in Wales.
