Obituary of Marjorie Anne Schaeffer

Schaeffer, Marjorie Anne "Margie" of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away at Covenant HeathCare - Harrison on Monday, May 14, 2018. She was 96 years old. Marjorie Anne McMullen was born on January 8, 1922 in Saginaw to the late George E. and Lillian (Bellinger) McMullen. She attended St. Andrew School and graduated in 1939. Margie married Joseph W. Schaeffer in 1946; he preceded her in death on August 18, 1992. She worked at Michigan Bell, now AT&T, retiring after 20 years. Margie was a loyal member of and enjoyed volunteering at St. Mary Cathedral and the St. Mary's Hospital for 25 years. She was an auxiliary member of the American Legion, and also a member of the Telephone Pioneer Women and the League of Catholic Women. In her spare time, she was a proud 25-year mall walker and had a special fondness for Notre Dame. She will be remembered for being a wonderful mother and grandmother, her positive attitude, joyful heart, and her strong faith in God. Margie was always able to find the best in people and the situation and was beautiful inside and out. She leaves to cherish her memory three sons and daughter, Wayne (Cathleen) Schaeffer of Fenton, James (Holly) Schaeffer of Midland, Joseph (Carolyn) Schaeffer of DePere, WI, and Patricia Chronowski, Apple Valley, MN; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren with one on the way; and two sisters: Jeanne Anne (Richard) Pettenger and Mary Katherine (Ron) Haeger. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 46 years, Joseph; brother, George (Marie) McMullen; and son-in-law, Richard Chronowski. FUNERAL: A funeral liturgy will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, 615 Hoyt Ave., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Thomas J. McNamara will officiate. Private Rite of Committal will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery. At Margie's request, cremation has taken place. VISITATION: Family and friends are invited to gather at the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption in Saginaw. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State).
