Obituary of Dorothy McDonald

McDonald, Dorothy "Dotty" of Saginaw, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Cartel Inns of Tri-Cities in Bay City. She was 92 years old. Dorothy Nizinski was the only child born to the late Frank and Vernetta (Michalak) Nizinski, on May 31, 1925, in Saginaw. She married Raymond F. McDonald on June 23, 1946 in Saginaw; he preceded her in death on March 27, 1991 after 45 years of marriage. Dorothy graduated from Saginaw High School. She later worked for Sun Valley Nursing Home in Bridgeport for 15 years. Dorothy and Raymond were long time members of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Saginaw, until they were no longer able to attend due to illness. She was also an auxiliary member of the American Legion Post 439. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, traveling, and the cottage in the Tawas area. She will be remembered as a loving, caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family. Surviving are her daughters: Patricia (Robert) Sutton and Susan Allen; three grandchildren: Kelly Allen, Eric Allen, and Andrew (Anna) Nab; one great-grandson, Emrich Nab; cousin and life-long friend, Sally Allen; and two nieces and a nephew: Kay Dankert, James McDonald, and Deborah McDonald-Blake. Dorothy was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Gregory Raymond Nab and son-in-law, Donald Allen.
FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2018 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State Street, Saginaw, MI 48603. Rev. Fr. Richard A. Bokinskie will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Andrew Mausoleum.
VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State St.) on Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Dorothy will lie in state at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial contribution to Saginaw Humane Society. Please share your thoughts and memories with the family at the church, funeral home, or through www.deislerfuneralhome.com.
