LARA, Ferdinand P. of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2012, at Covenant HealthCare - Harrison surrounded by his family. He was 81 years old. Ferdinand Paul Lara was born on April 28, 1930 in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Gabriel and Virginia (Sifuentes) Lara. He married Cathy S. Salcedo on January 18, 1964 in Saginaw; she survives him. He proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War receiving a purple heart. Ferdinand then went on to work at Malleable Iron Plant for 35 years. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and American Legion-Chesaning Post #212. Ferdinand loved being with his family especially spending time with his granddaughters. Left to cherish Ferdinand's memory are his wife, Cathy; two daughters: Patricia Lara and her boyfriend, Reynaldo Albino, and Linda Lara; his granddaughters: Angelique and Araceli Lara, Marissa and Mercedes Vences; two sisters and one brother: Mary M. (the late Raul) Vallez, Louis R. Lara and Rose (Glen) Wangler. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Angie P. Lara. FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy for Ferdinand will take place at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State St. Rev. Fr. Thomas Schmied OFMCap will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery with military honors conducted under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post #212 of Chesaning. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Monday, April 9, 2012 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Ferdinand will lie in state at the church on Tuesday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
