DOUGLASS, Gertrude J. of Saginaw passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Cartwright Hospice Residence. She was 92 years old. Gertrude Jean Begel was born on February 19, 1920 in Grand Blanc, MI to the late Carson M. and Georgia P. (Hood) Begel. She was married to David B. Douglass on June 30, 1940 in Grand Blanc, he preceded her in death on February 18, 1998. Gertrude was a faithful member of the Beacon of Hope Church (the former First Baptist Church of Saginaw). She enjoyed spending her time as a leader for the Girl Scouts. Gertrude was also an avid golfer holding many club championships at Rolling Green Country Club, Swan Valley Country Club, Forest Hills Country Club, in Grand Rapids and the Bridgeport Country Club. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Nancy (John) Marshall, Patti Elliott and David (Connie) Douglass Jr.; grandchildren: David Bates Douglass III (Shari), Matthew (Cindy) Douglass, Christopher (Hannah) Douglass, Julie (Eduardo) Garcia, Karen (Brian) Wischmeyer, Andrew Parent and Jillian Elliott; eight great grandchildren; sister, Patricia Ziel from Lansing; sisters-in-law: Doris Welch and Margaret Douglass from Ft. Wayne, IN; brother-in-law: Morton (Evelyn) Douglass from Ft. Wayne, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband; son-in-law, Kim Elliott; sister, Dorothy Schoensee; brothers-in-law: Lester Ziel, Harvey Schoensee, Howard Welch, and Robert Douglass. SERVICE: A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Beacon of Hope Church, 2109 W. Michigan Ave., Saginaw. Pastor Tucker Gunneman will officiate. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. According to Gertrude's wishes cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Beacon of Hope Church or the Cartwright Hospice Residence.
