Obituary of Alfred A. Altscheffel

ALTSCHEFFEL, Alfred A. of Midland, Michigan, formerly of Saginaw, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Mid Michigan Regional Medical Center-Midland. He was 89 years old. Alfred A. Altscheffel was born on October 31, 1922 in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Joseph and Minnie (Belgers) Altscheffel. He married the love of his life, Della M. Fischer on October 26, 1946; she survives him. For over 38 years, Alfred was employed by Farm Bureau Services. He was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Midland and the Knights of Columbus Council # 593 in Saginaw. Alfred was also a member of the Independent Order of Foresters and a Master Gardener. Surviving besides his loving wife, Della, are two sons and two daughters: Teresa Matthews and Len Erickson, William (Jackie) Altscheffel, Janice (Gary) Ackler, Steve (Lana) Altscheffel; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; He was preceded in death by two infant sons, Brian and John; two brothers: Vincent and Fredrick. FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy for Alfred will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 3516 E. Monroe Road, Midland. Rev. Fr. Kevin Maksym will officiate. Following Alfred's wishes cremation will follow the Mass. Interment will take place at a later date in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Saginaw. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Monday, May 7, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will take place at 7:00 p.m., Monday evening. Alfred will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
