Obituary of Christine P. Luther

LUTHER, Christine, of Saginaw, Michigan passed away peacefully on Monday, June 4, 2012 at HealthSource - Saginaw. She was 96 years of age. Christine Fochler was born on April 16, 1916 in Altoona, PA to the late Charles and Anna (Baum) Fochler. She was married to Gerald Luther on September 13, 1939 in Altoona. He predeceased her on December 4, 1997. Christine was an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. For many years she was part of the "Brown Bag Bunch" and a Eucharistic Minister to homebound parishioners. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Knights of Columbus Council #4231 and a passionate supporter of Right to Life. Christine was employed as Register of Deeds by Saginaw County until retiring in 1974. She and her husband Gerald lived in Sun City, Arizona from 1975 until their return to Saginaw in 1997. Christine enjoyed playing Bridge and watching old movies. Surviving are two sons and two daughters: Allen (Irene) Luther of Frankenmuth, Tom (Nina) Luther of Fayetteville, AR, Connie (Wayne) Wurtz of Saginaw, and Donna Luther of Freeland; five grandchildren: Stephen (Elizabeth) Wurtz, Amy (Greg) Engel, Michael (Amanda) Luther, Kathy (Matt) Luther/Ingoldsby, and Lisa Wurtz; nine great grandchildren: Jacob, Connor, Evan Wurtz, Will and Sam Engel, Aidan, Max, and Canaan Luther, and Indi Ingoldsby. Christine was preceded in death by a son, Gary Luther; a brother and two sisters, Robert Fochler, Hilda O'Connor and Leona Thompson. FUNERAL: Christine's Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2012 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State St. Rev. Fr. Keith LeFleur will officiate. In accordance with Christine's wishes cremation will follow. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to see Christine and visit with her family at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Christine will lie in state at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
