Obituary of Duane Allen Greenwald

Greenwald, Duane Allen of Saginaw Township
Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at St. Mary's of Michigan with his wife by his side. He was 75 years old. Duane Allen Greenwald was born on December 24, 1942 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late John and Stella (McKenna) Greenwald. He was a 1960 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Following graduation, he honorably served his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War from December 28, 1960 to December 29, 1961. Duane married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Mary Margaret Andrezejewski on February 2, 1963 in Saginaw; she survives him. He worked for Saginaw Steering Gear Plant 2 from 1962 to 1992; beginning as a machine operator and retiring in quality control following 30 years of service. Duane was a member of American Legion Post #439. His hobbies included camping, traveling, and visiting with his friends at the American Legion. He also enjoyed and had a passion for amateur radio, working hard to become licensed and communicate to others around the world. Above all, Duane loved and cherished his family, especially spending time with his granddaughter.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Mary M. Greenwald of Saginaw Township; a son, Barry A. Greenwald of Antioch, TN; a daughter, Kathy A. (Dale) Luoma of Holt; a granddaughter, Eeva L. Luoma; a mother-in-law, Eleanor M. Andrezejewski of Saginaw; a brother-in-law, Robert (Jayne) Andrezejewski of Saginaw; and a sister-in-law, Shirley (Larry) Jarabeck of Freeland. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Stella Greenwald, two brothers and one sister: John (Elsie) Greenwald, Roy (Mary) Rappley and Ruth (Elmer) Meisel; and a father-in-law, Robert H. Andrezejewski.
FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State Street. Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate. Military Honors and Rite of Committal will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery under the auspices of the United States Air Force and American Legion Post #439.
VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Duane will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
