Obituary of Dorothy Edna Houlihan

Houlihan, Dorothy Edna of Saginaw Township Passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at EdgeWood Assisted Living. She was 94 years old. Dorothy Sommerfield was born April 12, 1923 to the late Louis and Emma Sommerfield. She married the love her life John F. (Jack) Houlihan November 8, 1947 who preceded her in death on November 16, 2010. Dorothy graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1941. She was a life-long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Saginaw. Dorothy was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She volunteered many years at St. Luke's Hospital (now Covenant HealthCare). Dorothy and Jack traveled extensively enjoying the company of many friends and family. Dorothy was very artistic, which included drawing, sewing and different forms of needlework. She was also an avid reader. Surviving are Children: David Houlihan, Patricia (Joseph) Aspin, Karen (Thomas) Hagarty all of Saginaw; Grandchildren: Joshua (Kristin) Aspin, Hillary (Kyle) Kigar, Alex Kimmel, Dalton Fortier, Joel Hagarty and Emma Houlihan; Great Grandchildren: Aspin Stack, Owen Moeller, Jacob, Adam and Josiah Aspin; one great-great grandson, Kainnan Stack, and many nieces and nephews; Brothers and Sisters-in-law: June Sommerfield, Donald Grill, Margaret and Thomas Schultz, all of Florida, Rose Houlihan, Patrick and Nancy Houlihan and Mary Lou Houlihan, all of Saginaw. Dorothy was predeceased by her brother Donald Sommerfield, in-laws William and Doreen Houlihan, Marion Kline, Jane Grill, Thomas Houlihan, Ann Houlihan, Kathleen and William Bourdow, Ruth and Alex Szabo and Michael Houlihan and nephews Matthew Sommerfield and Bruce Houlihan. The family would like extend a warm thank you to staff at Edgewood Assisted Living and Residential Hometown Hospice for the loving care extended to their mother. Funeral Liturgy Services with take place at 11:00 am on Friday, March 2, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1020 Court St. (off Bond). Pastor David Naumann will officiate. Rite of burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Chapel. Friends may visit at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Thursday, March 1st from 2:00-8:00 pm and again at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
