Obituary of James R. Darnell

Darnell, James R. Saginaw, Michigan Beloved father and grandfather passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2018 at his home. Age 98 years. James Roy Darnell was born on September 27, 1919 in Alma, Michigan to the late William R. and Margaret (Gable) Darnell. Jim was raised in Mt. Morris and graduated from Mt. Morris, St. Mary High School. James proudly served his country with the United States Army during World War II. He married Rosalie Magyar on October 26, 1946 in Flint, Michigan. She preceded him in death on June 16, 2004. Jim worked for Blue Arrow Truck Lines for over 30 years, retiring in 1982. After retirement he enjoyed playing bingo and having lunch with his good friend, Dan Haymer. Jim was a member of Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, St. Helen Parish and the Knights of Columbus. Jim is survived by his son: Thomas J. (Ginny) Darnell; and his grandson, Thomas J. Darnell Jr. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Rosalie; son, Robert J. Darnell; brother, John B. Darnell; and a sister, Margaret Howell. FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy for James will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church-St. Helen Parish, 2445 N. Charles St., Saginaw, MI. Rev. Fr. Ronald F. Wagner will officiate. Military honors under the auspices of the U.S. Army will follow the Mass at church. Private entombment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive visitors at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
