Obituary of James L. Freeman

Freeman, James L. "Jim" of Sand Lake formerly of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully on January 1, 2018 at St. Mary's of Michigan with his family by his side. James L. Freeman was born on April 21, 1933 in Saginaw to the late Leslie and Katherine (Metiva) Freeman. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, leaving as the rank of Corporal. Upon his return, he married the love of his life, Theresa C. Grasso on May 5, 1956; she preceded him in death on November 5, 2013. He was employed by Saginaw Steering Gear for 34 years, retiring as a foreman. Jim also owned and operated Mobile Steam Cleaning. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Tawas. He was a member of the FOE in Hale, President of the Men's Association for the Grant Township Hall, an organizer for the Sand Lake Festival, volunteered as road patrol for Iosco County Sherriff's Department, and while living in Saginaw he was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the Snow Goers Association in Sand Lake. Above all he loved and cherished all children, especially his grandchildren. Jim will forever be remembered for being a leader, his strong will, independence and his compassionate soul. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of St. Mary's of Michigan NICU 6th Floor especially: Sam, Sarah, Kristen and Christine.
Surviving are his are a son, James P. (Jennifer) Freeman of Saginaw; three grandchildren: James C. Freeman of South Lyons, Jonathan M. Freeman of Haslett, Michigan and Gina Easlick of Melbourn, FL; two great-grandchildren: Emma Lynn Freeman and Michael Easlick; a brother, Leroy Freeman of Saginaw, and a sister, Noreen Guttowsky of Saginaw. He will be dearly missed by his good friends, Tom (Paula) Eargood of Sand Lake and Marv Gingrich of Tawas. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael J. Freeman.
FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at St. John Paul II Parish, St. Josaphat Catholic Church, 469 Shattuck Rd. Rev. Fr. Joseph A. Schabel will officiate. Military Honors will follow under the auspices of the United States Army and VFW Post #1859. Honoring Jim's wishes cremation has taken place.
VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State).
