Schluchter, Thomas D. "Tom"
Bay City, Michigan formerly of Saginaw
Passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was 71 years old. Thomas D. Schluchter was born on September 30, 1946 in Bay City, MI to the late Darold and Alvina "Winnie" (Oberin) Schluchter. Tom proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he received a Purple Heart. He was a charter member of the 2nd squadron, 1st Calvary Association and served as their treasurer for 30 years. In July of 2016, he was knighted into the Order of St. George, U.S. Calvary and Armor Association. Tom was also a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Bay City, American Legion Post #439, the Purple Heart Association, D.A.V. and V.F.W. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Tom returned to work at the Saginaw Division of General Motors, retiring in 1996. Tom enjoyed participating and coaching his children's sports teams throughout their childhood. He was a charter member of the Saginaw Township Soccer Association and then continued to serve on the Association's Board. He also served on the board for the Saginaw Township Can-Amera Games. Tom loved to travel with his wife, Linda, whom he married on May 13, 1972. His greatest memories were made spending time with his family and long-time friends, weekly lunches with the Thursday Card buddies, special times with his "boater friends" on their boats and he always looked forward to his 2-1 CAV reunions and time spent with his military brothers and families.
Tom is survived by his wife of 45 years, Linda; daughter, Jennifer Schluchter and her husband, David Clemmons of West Yellowstone, MT; son, Mark Schluchter of Bozeman, MT; granddaughter, Kaylee Clemmons, of Ennis, MT; brother, Donald and wife, Linda Schluchter of Saginaw, MI. Tom also was a "big brother" to his niece, Tina Mikulewicz (Dan) of Manistee, MI; and will be dearly missed by all his nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Darold and Winnie; and his brother, Gerald (Jerry) Schluchter.
