DUNN, Melvin "Jerry" of Thomas Twp., MI passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Cartwright Hospice Residence. He was 87 years old. Melvin Jerald Dunn was born February 24, 1930 in Sebring, Ohio to the late Oliver and Shirley (Albright) Dunn. Jerry joined the United States Marine Corps, at the age of 16. While proudly serving his country during World War II in China, Guam and Japan, he also finished his High School Diploma. Jerry then returned to Saginaw, where he met the love of his life, and married Joan P. Weber on September 22, 1951; she survives him. Jerry worked for Consumers Power for 41 years on the repair crew, retiring in 1990. He was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and former member of American Legion Post #439 and the Lions Club. Jerry enjoyed deer hunting, gardening, bowling, playing cards and creating memories with his family. Jerry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joan; three children: Katherine (Jeff) Lamphier, David (Roxanne) Dunn and Gary Dunn; six grandchildren: Eric (Theresa) Dunn, Dr. Matthew (Courtney) Dunn, Jeremy (Meredith) Dunn, Jessica Butler, David A. Dunn and Elizabeth Lamphier; eight great grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Winterstein. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Charles and Roger Dunn; two sisters: Audrey Mikulewicz and Winifred Ayrton. FUNERAL: Melvin's funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5335 Brockway Rd. Rev. Paul Biber will officiate. Entombment and military honors under the auspices of the US Marine Corps and American Legion Post #439 will follow at Chapel Hill Mausoleum. VISITATION: Family and friends are welcome to visit at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Sunday, December 3, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Jerry will lie in state at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. MEMORIALS: Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or the Cartwright Hospice Residence.
