Obituary of Henry J. Magalski

Magalski, Henry J. Saginaw, Michigan formerly of Farwell, MI Our loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2017 in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center. He was 86 years old. Henry Joseph Magalski was born on March 21, 1931 in Detroit, MI to the late Joseph and Caroline (Belinski) Magalski. As a child he was raised on the family farms in Stalwart, MI. Henry joined the National Guard Post #1437, Soo, MI and served with the Army during the Korean War. He married Evelyn J. Cooper on September 19, 1953, she survives him. Hank and Evelyn moved to Saginaw and he worked as a Job Setter for Saginaw Steering Gear Plant 4, for 31.5 years. Hank was a life member of the Clare-Farwell American Legion Post #558, Fraternal Order of Eagles #3977 and a faithful member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Saginaw and a former member of Our Lady of Hope/St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Clare. Hank was a self-taught man of many talents. His workmanship touched many, and will be forever cherished by his family, friends and community. One of his greatest joys also came from his time spent at "The Property" in Farwell and listening to his polka music. Henry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn; children: Carol Lechel, Janis (Bill) Zielinski, Joseph (Karen) Magalski, Nancy (Jim) Klein, Mary Jo (Brian) Hoff and Andy (Nena) Magalski; ten grandchildren: Matt (fiancée, Mel Daacon) Lechel, Brian (Sarah) Keenan-Lechel, Scott (Meaghan) Zielinski, Julie (fiancé, Reece Fischell) Zielinski, Kristie (Kevin) Lapplander, Michelle (Matt) Bailey, Steven Magalski, Kevin (Beth) Klein, John Hoff and Nathan Hoff; five great-grandchildren: Presley and Violet Zielinski, Daisy and Hugo Bailey and Isadora Klein; sister, Geraldine (T.L.) Hart; sister-in-law, Anna Cooper; special nephew and niece, Dale Brown and Connie Wixted. Hank is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son-in-law, Bill Lechel. The family would like to thank the staff in the Palliative Care Unit at the VA Medical Center for their compassionate care provided during his stay. Funeral: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 6400 McCarty Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Rev. Fr. William J. Rutkowski will officiate. Rite of Committal and Military Honors under the direction of the Army and American Legion Post #558 will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery. Visitation: Friends and family are welcome to visit at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. On Wednesday morning, Henry will be taken to the church to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the VA Medical Center, GPF#1022, Palliative Care, Voluntary Service (135), 1500 Weiss Street, Saginaw, MI 48602.
