Obituary of Helen Audrey Alda Rehfeld

Rehfeld, Helen Audrey Alda of Saginaw, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 23, 2017, at the Grace Pointe Assisted Living in Brighton. She was 93 years old. Helen Audrey Alda Rehfeld was born on October 16, 1924, in Shafer, Minnesota to the late Carl Oscar and Carolina (Nelson) Larson. She was a graduated from Sheboygan High School in Sheboygan, Wisconsin with the class of 1942. Upon graduation, Helen earned a Nursing Diploma from Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago in 1945. As a nursing student during World War II, many of the nurses left for the war; leaving the responsibility to the Helen and the other cadet nursing students to man the hospital. In 1958, she earned a BSN from the University of Wisconsin. Helen married Frederick Leo John Rehfeld on November 7, 1959; he preceded her in death August 1, 1999. Prior to having her child, Helen worked for a couple years as a Director for the Sheboygan County Public Health Department. She was also later employed at the Frankenmuth Convalescent Home as a RN and then as an occupational nurse with Saginaw General Motor factories. She was a longtime and faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church and a past member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Frankentrost. While at Immanuel, Helen assisted with the school library. Throughout the 1960's and 70's, she actively coordinated and scheduled routes for Meals on Wheels. Helen was a member of the Wisconsin Alumni Association. She enjoyed reading about current events and was interested in conservationism and creationism. Surviving are a daughter, Ruth (William) Libby of Milford; one granddaughter, Carolena (Timothy) Scheidler of Windsor Locks, CT; and one great-grandson, Frederick Scheidler. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by four siblings and their spouses: Edith (George) Grandquist, Sydney (Loretta) Larson, Harriet (Fredric) Rosenthal and Melvin (Sylvia) Larson. FUNERAL: A Funeral Service will take at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Street. Rev. Robert Eggers will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Monday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Helen will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
