Obituary of Nicholina Jones

Jones, Nicholina "Lena" "Nickie" (DeAgostino) of Saginaw Township Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 in the comfort of her home. She was 90 years old. Nicholina DeAgostino was born on September 17, 1926 in Midland, Michigan to the late Vincent and Aurora (Mascia) DeAgostino. She was a proud graduate of St. Michael High School in Flint, Michigan. Upon graduation, she attended Flint Junior College receiving her Associate Degree in Bookkeeping. Growing up, Nicholina worked for her father at his shoemaking business. She married the love of her life, Ernest James Jones on June 26, 1954 in Flint; he survives her. Nicholina worked as an executive secretary for with Buick Engineering, before taking on the most important role of her life, raising her family. She was a faithful member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, where she actively volunteered throughout her life. Nicholina enjoyed traveling, she was an excellent cook, but above all she loved and cherished her family, especially her grandchildren. She will forever be remembered for her kindness, selflessness and for her generous spirt. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Ernest "Ernie" James Jones of Saginaw Township; three daughters and two sons: Mary Lee Jones of Ann Arbor, MI, Vince Jones of Saginaw Township, Linda Jones Silberberg of Wellesley, MA, Andy (Jennifer) Jones of Saginaw Township, and Julie (Tom) Wight of Holland, MI; five grandchildren: Elizabeth, Jonathan and Kate Silberberg, Lauren and Matthew Wight; and one sister and two brothers: Carmela Sleva of Flint, Tom (Barbara) DeAgostino of Petoskey, and Gene (Pat) DeAgostino of Troy. Also surviving are many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Amy Beth Jones. FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State Street. Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
