Obituary of Isabel Jesusa Hernandez

Hernandez, Isabel Jesusa of Waukegan, Illinois, formerly of Saginaw, Michigan
Our heavenly father called home our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the Pavilion of Waukegan. She was 75 years old. Isabel Jesusa Lopez was born on March 11, 1942 in Houston, Texas to the late Alejo and Socorro (Barron) Lopez. She was a proud graduate of St. Joseph High School. Isabel was formerly employed with General Motors as a line worker in Saginaw. Isabel then moved to Waukegan with her life partner, Edward Gonzales. After relocating she became licensed as a Certified Nursing Aide, working at the Terrace Nursing. Isabel's favorite career was working at Kids Korner within the 19th Judicial Court in Lake County. She not only provided care for the children, but she also acted as an interpreter. Her communications with the Spanish speaking children was crucial to understand their wants and needs. When Isabel was a young woman she enjoyed dancing, but she always loved Tejano Music. Above all, she loved and cherished her family. She will forever be remembered for her kind and gentle heart, her selflessness to all, and her love and devotion to her family.
Surviving are one son and one daughter: Phillip (Caryn) Hernandez, Elizabeth (Brandon) Hernandez Goniwicha of Beach Park, IL; four grandchildren: Jacob Jimenez, Steven Gonzalez, Gabriella Hernandez and Dominick Hernandez; life partner, Edward Gonzales of Waukegan, IL; five sisters and one brother: Sr. Phyllis Lopez, Sr. Ellen Mary Lopez, Adella (Frank) Diaz, Rose Lopez, Joe (Mary Alice) Lopez and Alice Lopez. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, Henry Hernandez; two sisters: Cleofas Villalobos and Nancy Luna.
FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church , 910 N. 6th Ave. Rev. Fr. Francis Voris, OFM Cap will officiate. Honoring Isabel's wishes cremation will follow the service. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Monday at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening. Isabel will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
