Obituary of Dorothy May Cook

Cook, Dorothy May of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence. She was 96 years old. Dorothy May MacFarlane was born on July 23, 1920 to the late Alexander and Bertha (Ferber) MacFarlane. She married the love of her life Russell Shirkey Cook on March 18, 1950; he survives her. Dorothy was a faithful member of St. Helen Catholic Church. Dorothy enjoyed spending many summers with her family at Budd Lake in Harrison. She also enjoyed bowling and playing cards with her family and friends. Dorothy was a wonderful cook and baked the best apple pies in the world. She will forever be remembered for her heart of gold and for being the glue that kept her family together.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Russell Shirkey Cook of Saginaw; two daughters: Jan (Larry) Hauck of Saginaw and Debbie Custack of Saginaw; a daughter-in-law, Julie Coenis of Saginaw; six grandchildren: Nancy (Steve) Shea, John (Sharon) Coenis, Kevin (Jessica) Custack, Stacy Hauck-Moore, Emily (Eddy) Jankowski and Andrew Hauck; eight great-grandchildren: Nick, Alex, TJ, Adam, Abbey, Kaylee, Annie and Zachary; two sisters: Betty Schark and Lou Heinz. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert W. Coenis; two sisters and one brother: Margaret Federspiel, Mildred Pierce and Robert MacFarlane.
FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 24, 2017 at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, St. Helen Catholic Church, 2445 N. Charles St. Rev. Fr. Ronald F. Wagner will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Cartwright Hospice Residence or Christ the Good Shepherd Parish - St. Helen Catholic Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Please share your thoughts and memories with the family at the church or through www.deislerfuneralhome.com.
