Moreno, Antonio "Tony" of Saginaw Township, Michigan Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle and friend passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017 with his family by his side at Covenant HealthCare - Harrison. He was 68 years old. Antonio Robert Moreno was born on October 24, 1948 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Ramon and Julia (Aranjo) Moreno. He attended St. Joseph High School and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Northwood University. Tony married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Maria Elena Gonzalez on May 25, 1968 in Saginaw; she survives him. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam in the 11th Armored Calvary, earning several honorable medals. Tony was employed at General Motors as the Director of International Personnel, retiring from Delphi Automotive in 2002 with over 35 years of service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council no. 593 as well as a 4th degree knight. Tony enjoyed his involvement within the community, serving on Tri-City SER, L.U.L.A.C, and the United Way. Tony was an advocate of education and had a passion to encourage others to reach their full potential. He was a supporter of both the National American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. Tony was also a member of the American GI Forum. A true philanthropist, he donated to various charities and organizations throughout the years. Tony was an avid University of Michigan fan and enjoyed golfing, bowling and deer hunting. He loved reading, playing cards with his family and friends as well as traveling. He believed in creating memories both here and abroad. Above all, Tony loved and cherished his family, especially his pride and joy, his four grandchildren. He will forever be remembered for his sense of humor and his ability to make others feel special. Left to cherish his memories are his beloved wife of 49 years, Maria Elena Moreno of Saginaw Township; three children: Michael Moreno of Saginaw Township, Veronica (Jason) Nowicki of Ann Arbor and Matthew (Jill) Moreno of Bay City; four grandchildren: Chase and Emerson Nowicki and Mia and Nolan Moreno; a father, Francisco Renteria of Saginaw; six brothers and two sisters: Raymond Moreno, Mary (Ignacio) Lopez, Connie Castillo, Milo (Carol) Moreno, Robert Renteria, Ruben Renteria, Francisco Renteria and Gilbert Gomez; and two uncles: Kenneth Aranjo and Jesse (Lupe) Aranjo. Also surviving are many special nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon Moreno and Julia Renteria; and a brother, David Gomez. FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at St. Dominic Parish - Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 4735 W. Michigan Ave. Rev. Fr. Andrew LaFramboise and Rev. Fr. Joseph A. Schabel will concelebrate. Military Honors and Rite of Committal will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery under the auspices of the United States Army and American GI Forum. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Tuesday at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening led by Rev. Fr. Joseph A. Schabel. Tony will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
