CASTANON, Richard of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 10, 2017 at St. Mary's of Michigan. He was 73 years old. Richard "Kiko" Castanon was born on June 12, 1943 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Juan and Socorro (Ortega) Castanon. He married Consuelo Buitron on August 21, 1970; they celebrated 42 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on December 9, 2012. Richard graduated from St. Joseph High School. Following graduation, Richard proudly served in the United States Army for two years. After his honorable discharge, he began his career with General Motors as a machine operator; he retired in 2005 after 37 years of service. He and his wife had been faithful members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed bowling and listening to music. Surviving are two sons and three daughters: Richard Castanon Jr. of Saginaw, Santino Castanon of Austin, TX, Patricia Ann Walsh of Bay City, Maria Espinoza of Saginaw, Cynthia Hanson of Bay City; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; five sisters and two brothers: Jovita Isquierdo of Denver, CO, Ida (Frank) Rocha of Saginaw, Nancy Fulgencio of Round Rock, TX, Elena (David) Ortiz of Saginaw, Cristina Castanon of San Antonio, TX, Trinidad (Betty) Castanon of Tucson, AZ and Joe (Margaret) Castanon of Saginaw; step-mother, Carmen Castanon; one step-sister and two step-brothers: John Castanon of Saginaw, Armando (Sylvia) Castanon of Saginaw and Yolanda (Barney) Guzman of Saginaw; friends, Gloria Villarreal and Mousie De La Cruz; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Consuelo; two brothers and one sister: Vincent and Arthur Castanon and Josephine Ortega. FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 910 N. 6th Ave. Rev. Fr. Ronald Dombrowski will officiate. Directly following Mass at the church, military honors will take place under the auspices of the United States Army. Rite of Committal for cremated remains will take place at a later date in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter (off State) on Sunday, March 12, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will take place Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. On Monday morning, Richard will be taken to the church to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
