Obituary of Betty Lou Okuly

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on Monday, February 27, 2017 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence. She was 90 years old. Betty Lou Glass was born on August 10, 1926 in Huntington, Indiana to the late Andrew Jackson and Lulu Claribel (Foster) Glass. She married James Edward Okuly on April 17, 1948; he survives her. She graduated from Huntington High School with the Class of 1944. Following graduation, she worked at Consumers Energy for one year prior to having children. She volunteered for the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary for 40 years. She and Jim were members of St. Dominic Parish - St. Stephen Catholic Church. In her spare time, Betty Lou enjoyed crafting and reading. Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Jim; three sons and one daughter: Steven Andrew (Nina) Okuly of Lansing, Janet Sue Nixon of Saginaw, John James (Tami) Okuly of Cheybogan, and Harold Richard Okuly of Midland; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017 at St. Dominic Parish - St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1310 Malzahn. Rev. Fr. Andrew LaFramboise will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. MEMORIALS: Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Dominic Parish - St. Stephen Catholic Church or the American Lung Association. Arrangements have been entrusted to Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Please share your thoughts and memories with the family at the church or through www.deislerfuneralhome.com.
