Obituary of Clara C. Story

Please share a memory of Clara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Clara C Story, age 91 of Sebewaing, passed away on January 24th, 2017. We have lost the backbone of our family and will forever be grateful for the values she instilled in us. Mom was born on September 30th, 1925 in Sheridan Township to Polish immigrant parents, Peter and Mary Pluta. She was the only surviving child and has now returned to those she loved the most, her 9 brothers and sisters. She always said that the happiest times of her life were when she was a child growing up with all those siblings. They were poor, but they didn't know it. Many hours were spent on her hands and knees thinning beets and hoeing alongside her family. She didn't mind the work then nor did she mind it all of her life. As mom grew older, she began to realize the work ethic she had was the same as her mom's. She always said "I hear mom's voice saying 'do it right the first time'". Along with Jess Story (deceased), she raised 6 children of her own. We remember a strong no-nonsense woman, who was as honest as the day was long, and expected the same from her own kids. She worked tirelessly, making sure our clothes were pressed, our meals were ready, and seemed to can fruit and vegetables nonstop. As we grew up and could fend for ourselves, mom went to work with her sister, Stella Ludwig, painting, wallpapering, and cleaning homes all over Huron County. When she got a little older, she took a job tending bar at Sportsman's Bar in Sebewaing, where her sister Helen Herman also worked. After that, she continued helping her kids and grandkids in their homes. She was always ready to offer decorating advice when you wanted it - - and when you didn't. Mom loved to read, all of her life, and later discovered that with the help of her daughter-in-law, Susie, she could grow flowers. You could find her, still on her hands and knees, picking the weeds out "by the root" as her mom taught her. Mom was a feisty, genuine, self-sufficient woman who never asked for anything nor did she expect anything. We loved her dearly and will forever miss her. We will all hear our mom's voice for many years to come. Surviving Clara are sons Robert Klimkowski (Sue Ballard) of Unionville, James of Rose City, Terry (Vicki Limberger) of Owendale, and daughters Linda Shope (John) of Caro, and Luanne Story (Chuck Sylla) of Attica, eleven grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Two infant daughters, Barbara Klimkowski and Diane Story, and one son, Randy Story, preceded her in death. Cremation has taken place and mom's ashes will be buried in the spring with her son Randy, as she wished. Memorials may be made to St Jude Children's Hospital in Clara's name. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) Saginaw, MI. Please share your thoughts and memories with the family through www.DeislerFuneralHome.com
