Obituary of Rena Irene Chartrand

Chartrand, Rena I. of Saginaw Township, Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016 at the Cartwright Hospice Residence, with her family by her side. She was 93 years old. Rena I. Bowerman was born on July 20, 1923 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Russell and Mary (Collison) Bowerman. She married Harold A. Chartrand on September 20, 1941; he preceded her in death on February 2, 1990. She was a faithful member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Rena enjoyed going out to dinner with family and friends. Above all, she loved and cherished her family, especially her grandchildren. Rena will forever be remembered by her family for being a wonderful mother and homemaker. Surviving are one son and daughter: Thomas (Linda) Chartrand of Hemlock and Janice (Mark) Wegner of Saginaw; a son-in-law, John Kilbourn of Freeland; nine grandchildren: Mark (Trisha) Berner, Steven (Kelly) Berner, Jeremy (Dawn) Chartrand, Jessica (Neil) Clunie, Ryan (Clarissa) Wegner, Christopher (Gina) Wegner, John (Rebecca) Koltvedt, Christina (David) Knochel, and Kevin Begin; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister and two brothers: Alice (Ken) Coon, John (Joan) Bowerman, and Eugene (Dorothy) Bowerman; and a sister-in-law, Joan (Edward) Fehn. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lynn Kilbourn; an infant daughter; and two brothers and one sister: Louis, Ray and June. FUNERAL: A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State St. Rev. Fr. Edwin Dwyer will officiate. Rite of Committal will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Freeland. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Rena will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Cancer Society and the Cartwright Hospice Residence.
