Gorski, Mervin "Bud" George of Zilwaukee, Michigan Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather and brother passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Covenant HealthCare - Cooper. He was 92 years old. Mervin George Gorski was born on October 30, 1923 in Zilwaukee, Michigan to the late George and Gladys (Bigger) Gorski. Bud was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Following graduation he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy serving on a destroyer as a Machinist Mate during World War II. Upon his return, he married Betty Jane Hagerty on December 29, 1945 and celebrated 69 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on July 12, 2015. Bud was employed as a foreman at Malleable Iron, retiring with over 30 years of service. He was a faithful member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. Bud and his wife Betty were avid Detroit Tiger fans and enjoyed fishing, camping, and square dancing. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and singing around the campfire. Together they spent many winters in Florida at Crystal Lake Village. Above all, Bud loved and cherished his family and friends. Surviving are six children: Jane (Keith) Hadaway, Linda Cherry, Jim (Mary Lynn) Gorski, Nancy (Alan) Vance, Marybeth (Rod) Bonham, and Dan Gorski; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren with one on the way; one great-great grandson; one sister, Sharlene (Larry) Wise; one brother, Rod (Jeanne) Gorski; Also surviving are many beloved family members and friends. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Anthony Cherry; two great-grandchildren: Jessica Lorigan and Thomas Warnemuende; and one brother, Bruce Gorski. FUNERAL: Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at St. John Paul II Catholic Church (St. Matthew site), 511 W. Cornell Street, Zilwaukee, Michigan, 48604. Military Honors with Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the auspices of the United States Navy and VFW Post 1859. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Eulogy Service led by lay ministers: Jim and Sally Macomber will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Bud will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the March of Dimes or the Disabled American Veterans.
