Obituary of Betty Jane Roe

Roe, Betty Jane of Traverse City, Michigan, formerly of Saginaw, Michigan Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 05, 2016 at Cherry Hill Haven of Traverse City. She was 81 years old. Betty Jane Toles was born on August 26, 1934 in McRae, Arkansas to the late William A. and Eva M. (Jines) Toles. She was a proud graduate of Bay City Central High School. Following graduation, Betty began working for the Bell Telephone Company. She married the love of her life, Joseph A. Roe, Jr. on August 19, 1953 and together began a family; Betty staying home to care for her beloved daughters and husband. Betty then began a successful career as a realtor receiving various awards over her 25 years of service. She enjoyed working outdoors in her yard and gardening, especially caring for and growing flowers. Betty was a faithful member of Immanuel Bible Church, which brought her so much joy throughout the years. It also became a beacon of light to her soul. Betty also loved and was fascinated by her favorite movie star, John Wayne. She also had a strong affinity to the American Flag and was instrumental in Cherry Hill Haven getting one to display at their facility. Above all, Betty will forever be remembered for her unwavering role as caretaker for her family. Surviving are two daughters: Kathy Marie Gibbs of Prior Lake, MN and Sally Ann (Bill) Catinella of Traverse City; four grandchildren: Joshua (Shannon) Owen of Lowry, MN, Matthew (Melani) Owen of Prior Lake, MN, Rachel (Robert) Stevens of Wyoming, MI, and Melanie Catinella of Traverse City; two great-grandchildren: Rylan Owen and Mia Owen; and one sister, Eva Jean Penny of Midland, Michigan. Joseph Roe preceded her in death on October 4, 2005. Betty was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ann Erndt. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Cherry Hill Haven and Hospice of Michigan - Traverse City for all the love and care they provided to Betty and their family. FUNERAL: A Memorial Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State). Rev. Mark Hazen will officiate. Honoring Betty's wishes cremation has taken place. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
