Obituary of Dorothy L. Hazen

Hazen, Dorothy L. of Interlochen formerly of Saginaw, MI passed away peacefully on Monday, May 9, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. She was 67 years old. Dorothy Lynn Filip was born on November 20, 1948 in Detroit to the late Joseph and Dorothy (Bowden) Filip. She married Dr. Ronald C. Hazen on June 23, 1973 in Detroit. Dorothy was affectionately known as "The Queen", and as ruler of her dominion she loved to host family gatherings, birthdays and Christmas celebrations. Her creative touches were found in beautifully wrapped presents and blooming flower gardens. Dorothy's kind hearted spirit guided young readers through the libraries of the Saginaw Township School District, were they too found a love for reading. Her overabounding love for family and God's creatures lead her to volunteer with the Humane Society and enjoy a quiet afternoon of birdwatching. In recent years, her grandchildren, Annika and Lukas, were her pride and joy, blessing her with unconditional love. Dorothy's memory will be cherished by her husband: Dr. Ronald C. Hazen; children: Nicole Hazen and her husband, Todd Bushbaker and Ron "R.J." Hazen and his husband, Jeffrey Buczynski; grandchildren: Annika and Lukas Bushbaker; sister-in-law: Christine Hazen; nephew, Dr. Greg Hazen; niece, Beth Hazen. She will also be deeply missed by her extended family and close friends, Marilyn Proctor, Karen Schultz, Mindy Leibinger and Jan Bensdorf. Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Crystal Hazen-Toft and Carmen Hazen; brother-in-law: Dr. Lawrence Hazen. MEMORIAL SERVICE: According to Dorothy's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 13, 2016 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) Rev. Ted McCulloch will officiate. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
