Obituary of Wesley F. Westendorf

Westendorf, Wesley F. of Saginaw Twp., Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. He was 90 years old. Wesley F. Westendorf was born on September 22, 1925 in Zilwaukee, MI to the late William F. and Violet G. (Rivett) Westendorf. Wesley grew up in Saginaw and then followed in his older brothers' footsteps and enlisted into the U.S. Army Airborne where he served during WWII. His younger brother then joined the U.S. Navy to also serve his country. Following his military service, Wesley then returned home to Zilwaukee to rejoin his wife, Shirley F. McLeod. Wesley worked for Grey Iron Foundry for over 30 years. He then married Norma Jean Napolitano in Bay City. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2004. Wesley enjoyed wintering in Sanford, Florida with his wife Norma. He was passionate about golfing and fishing and held a membership with the local American Legion. Wesley is survived by his two sons and a daughter: Dennis F. Westendorf, Gary F. Westendorf and Kathy L. (Tom) Even; grandson, Chistopher (Lindsay) MacLeod; two great grandchildren, Claire and Trenton MacLeod; sister, Jeanie McKnight; step-children: Cynthia (Richard) Beckman, Patrick (Renee) Napolitano and Jeffrey (Marilyn) Napolitano. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by three brothers: William F., Wallace F. and Warren F. Westendorf; three sisters: Lois Harshman, Lila Kessler and Lucille Whelan. FUNERAL: A funeral liturgy will be held for Wesley at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 14, 2016 at St. John Paul II - St. Josaphat site, 469 Shattuck Rd., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. James Bessert will officiate. Committal and Military Honors under the auspices of the U.S. Army and American Legion Post #439 will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. VISITATION: Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wesley will lie in state at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to Michigan Right to Life.
